Leadership Now – David Ashcraft
A few months ago, I was chatting with a coworker who brought up the new album “Cowboy Carter.” Being from Texas, I played it off as if I was familiar with the country album, saying I really appreciated him. We had a good laugh afterward at the fact that Cowboy Carter is not a “him” — in fact it’s none other than Beyoncé.
In this communication mishap, we both made mistakes — my coworker in assuming I kept up with Beyoncé’s latest albums, and me in assuming I could pretend I had any clue what she was talking about!
But this experience reminded me of a key communication principle: Know your audience.
